How it works and how to install
The bimetallic thermostat contains a metal strip that expands when heated. When the temperature reaches 240°C, the strip deforms and automatically breaks the electrical circuit. After cooling, the contact is re-established. Installation is done by fixing the metal bracket to the surface to be monitored and connecting the two terminals in series with the appliance's power circuit. No specialized tools are required — only a screwdriver for fastening and connection.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
