How it works and how to install it
The bimetal thermostat uses a metal strip that deforms as the temperature rises, automatically opening the electrical contact at 230°C. Installation involves fixing the metal casing to the surface to be monitored with the provided screws and connecting the two electrical poles in series with the power circuit. No calibration is required — the trip temperature is preset at the factory. After cooling, the contact closes automatically and the appliance returns to normal operation.

The reset is automatic. After the temperature drops below the critical threshold, the contact closes by itself and the circuit returns to normal, without pressing any button.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
