How it works and how to install
Cut the required length of tubing, slip it over the cable or connection to be protected, then apply heat evenly with a heat gun or industrial hair dryer. At 90°C, the tube begins to shrink and perfectly mold to the cable's surface. A radial shrinkage of at least 50% ensures a firm grip, and the length change is a maximum of 5%, so the tube does not deform excessively. Application takes less than a minute per connection.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the tube shrink after heating?
The tube shrinks radially by at least 50%, meaning the 4.5mm diameter becomes approximately 2.25mm or smaller, depending on the thickness of the cable it covers.
Can I use a regular hair dryer for shrinking?
A hair dryer reaches about 60-80°C, which is insufficient for complete shrinkage. We recommend an industrial heat gun or industrial hair dryer that reaches 90-100°C.
Is it safe to use the tubing in automotive installations?
Yes, the material is flexible and resistant to vibrations. Being halogen-free, it does not emit toxic substances at normal engine operating temperatures.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
