How it works and how to install it
The 5W COB LED chip is powered by 15V DC with a current of 300 mA, through an appropriate LED driver (not included). Installation is done directly onto a metal heatsink using thermal paste, to ensure the dissipation of heat generated during operation. The positive and negative power contacts are located in different corners of the aluminum base, identifiable by the marking on the chip, and incorrect polarity connection or using an incorrect voltage can permanently damage the component.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate driver for this 5W COB LED chip?
Yes, the chip requires an LED driver that supplies 15V DC at 300 mA. It does not connect directly to the 220V mains.
Does this chip get hot, and do I need a heatsink?
Yes, at 5W, the chip generates significant heat and must be mounted on a metal heatsink with thermal paste, otherwise, its lifespan will be significantly reduced.
Can it be used outdoors or in wet areas?
No. The COB LED chip does not have moisture protection and is not suitable for use in wet environments or directly exposed to the elements — it should only be installed in luminaires with an appropriate protection rating.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
