How it works and how to install it
Cut the required length of tubing, position it over the electrical connection or exposed cable end, then apply uniform heat with a heat gun, lighter, or powerful hairdryer. At 90°C, the tube shrinks radially by at least 50%, adhering firmly to the cable and creating perfect insulation. The process takes 10-20 seconds per connection, without specialized tools.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a regular hairdryer for shrinkage?
Yes, if the hairdryer has a powerful hot air function. Shrinkage occurs at 90°C, so most hairdryers will work, but the process takes a bit longer than with a professional heat gun.
What cable thickness is the 1.5mm tube suitable for?
The un-shrunk diameter of 1.5mm is ideal for cables between 0.5-1mm thick (speaker wires, LEDs, phone wires, car sensors). After 50% shrinkage, it reduces to approximately 0.75mm.
Is it suitable for outdoor or only indoor use?
It withstands normal humidity and temperature, but for outdoor use, we recommend additional protection (sealed junction box or corrugated conduit). It is not classified as UV-resistant long-term.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
