How it works and how to install
gPV fuses operate by melting the internal fuse element when the current exceeds the nominal value of 32A or a short circuit occurs, interrupting the circuit before equipment is affected. Installation is simple, by inserting the fuse into a compatible 10x38mm fuse holder mounted on the string-box or in the DC panel of the solar installation — no special tools are required. Replacing a blown fuse takes less than a minute, provided the power source is disconnected before intervention.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these fuses compatible with any 10x38mm fuse holder on the market?
Yes, the standard Ø10x38mm size makes them compatible with the vast majority of fuse holders used in photovoltaic DC panels. However, check the maximum allowable voltage of the fuse holder — it must be at least 1000V DC.
Why do I need special photovoltaic fuses and why won't ordinary AC ones work?
DC current is much harder to interrupt than AC current because it does not periodically pass through zero. gPV fuses are specifically designed to extinguish the electric arc in high-voltage DC conditions, which standard AC fuses cannot do safely.
How do I know if a fuse has blown in my solar installation?
The most common sign is a sudden drop in a string's production or a complete absence of voltage on that circuit. You can visually check the fuses or measure continuity with a multimeter after disconnecting the system from power.
