How it works and how to install it
The LED chip is directly soldered onto the star-type aluminum board, which absorbs and dissipates heat without requiring an additional external heatsink in low-power applications. Connection is made by soldering or screwing onto the pads marked with + and -, to a stable 3.2V-3.6V power supply with a driver or current-limiting resistor. For applications with multiple modules, the chips can be connected in series or parallel using the side pads of the star board.

Do I need a separate driver for this 3W LED?
Yes, the chip requires a constant current source or an LED driver that provides 500-700mA at a voltage of 3.2V-3.6V; direct connection to a battery without current limitation can damage the diode.
Is the included aluminum heatsink sufficient, or is additional cooling needed?
For continuous operation at a nominal power of 3W, it is recommended to apply thermal paste and mount the star board on an external heatsink or a metal surface; for intermittent use or outdoors, the included support may be sufficient.
Can I connect multiple such chips together?
Yes, the star boards are designed for series or parallel interconnection via the side pads, as seen in the presented multi-module configurations; make sure the chosen driver supports the total voltage and current of the configuration.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
