How it works and how to install it
The COB LED chip operates at 30V DC with a current of 300mA, so it requires an external LED driver to supply the corresponding voltage and current — it does not connect directly to the mains. Installation is done by applying a thin layer of thermal paste between the substrate and the aluminum heatsink, after which the chip is mechanically fixed and the wires are connected to the + and - contacts marked on the corners of the substrate. A heatsink is mandatory: without proper heat dissipation, the junction temperature will rise rapidly and significantly reduce the chip's lifespan.

It is not recommended for outdoor or humid environments — the chip does not have IP protection and must be mounted in appropriate enclosures that provide the necessary protection.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction.
